Welcome to Rachel Williams Counselling

Rise Above, Shine Within

If I had to put my counselling approach into just a few words, it would be...

"My counselling approach is informed by two theories which blend together to explore, who you are and how you exist"

Humanistic- this theory believes we must seek our own answers and solutions to live our best lives. A life that provides meaning, purpose and growth. Uncovering those answers is where counselling comes in.

Existential- this theory seeks to explore how we choose to see the world and exist within it; our values, morals, beliefs and choices. Counselling can allow you to explore if any of the principles you hold, or the choices you make, are preventing you from living the life you want to live. What is holding you back? What changes can you make? What must you accept that cannot be changed?

I have a personal and professional interest in how animals can provide us with mental health support. I currently have two miniature dachshund dogs who are in training to become visiting therapy dogs within the Bridgend and surrounding area. Research is ever emerging to provide us with the evidence that being around animals has a beneficial effect on both our mental and physical health. Please ask me about this. I support the presence of animals, where possible, to be in the therapy space with you.

I am interested in energy healing, reiki, meditation and breath work practices. I am attuned in reiki level one and crystal reiki. This allows me to practice reiki on friends and family.

I support the evidence that being active particularly in nature, eating well and having a good sleep routine enables us to live well and weather the storms that life can throw at us. I enjoy working with individuals who follow belief-based approaches to life whether that is religiously informed or universal, spiritual or nature based beliefs.

What Can I Offer?

Counselling by telephone, video and email

Video counselling is a way to see me from your computer, laptop or smart phone, whilst engaging in therapy.

Telephone counselling is similar but takes place over the phone and without the use of a camera.

Email counselling is a way to share your thoughts and feelings through the written word. The counsellor reads and reflects upon your words and sends a reply on an agreed day and time, usually 48 hours later.

Counselling sessions usually last up to an hour and take place on an agreed day and time on a weekly or fortnightly basis.

If you think my approach would suit what you require in a therapist, please feel free to get in touch via my contact page or text for an informal chat before making the decision to seek counselling. Initial session appointments last around 20 minutes and are free of charge.

If sessions are taken up I ask that 24 hours notice is given if you need to cancel or amend the session day/time. I accept payment via bank transfer and provide a receipt following payment.

About Me

I hold a Level 4 Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling; Humanistic and Existential modalities. I work on the basis that we each know what is best for our own growth and that we have the ability to make choices. There are of course things that are beyond our control as human beings but it is possible to live with those things, and I can support you to recognise and choose your pathway through those difficult times.

I encourage those who are creative to bring poems, songs, images and tattoos that hold meaning into sessions when your own words are hard to find. I am attuned to reiki level one and crystal reiki. I enjoy exploring the holistic mediums of supporting our physical and mental wellbeing.

I am not here to give advice but rather to create the space that will allow you to see your own pathway that fits within the world that you live in. By delivering a non-judgmental and honest approach, I look forward to experiencing your world alongside you. It is a privilege to be allowed to experience your world, and your uniqueness, and I continue to learn from others time after time.

Trust

Trust is a big part of allowing you to explore your inner most thoughts and feelings which is why the pace of the sessions is determined by you. It is important that you feel safe and supported if therapy is to allow you to achieve your wishes or goals in life.

Counselling

Counselling can be a life changing experience when conducted at the appropriate time, for you to explore your thoughts, feelings and maybe fears. It is also important to find the right counsellor

Fully insured

I am a fully insured and qualified therapist. Additionally, I am a registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and conduct regular continuing professional development as the professional body requires. It is important to me to stay current and knowledgeable in an ever-changing world which can affect how we experience our lives.

FAQ

Please see some of the frequently asked questions. I understand that this can be a challenging and scary time for you and you may have lots of questions to ask. If you are unable to find the answer to your questions on the FAQ page then please feel free to contact me.

What happens once I’ve contacted you?

If by email or via the contact page I will reach out to you and offer you a free 20 minute video or telephone consultation at a time of your convenience. If by telephone, a message can be left with contact information and again I will reach out to you. When not in work my phone is kept securely in my office space so there may be a delay if contacting me by phone.

Do you give advice?

Advice is great when given appropriately and in keeping with your needs. However as a person centred therapist I very much work with you to seek your own answers and solutions.

Can I ring you in crisis?

I am not able to offer a crisis service. If in crisis please visit the crisis section for further information.
